We’re actually doing it that’s so cool It couldn’t be a better spot to shoot a Dog training video Inertia’s really smart but when she Comes to a brand new place like Somewhere crazy like this i feel like I’m glad that i’m filming and you’re in Charge of her Inertia that’s cooked inlet can you Smell the pacific ocean Come to think of it i think you’ve only Smelled the atlantic ocean by the way Guys i thought you might think it was Cool that this mountain is called Susitna which means sleeping lady Because it looks like one Do you think it looks like one i mean When you point it out yes i can easily See how they did it like Her hair is that way she lies on her Back right And then or her i always pictured her on Her side but i guess it could be either But her torso and her legs Are over here on this side on the right On the right side Yeah yeah and then her head is like Oh okay there’s that’s her head anyway But i can kind of see it so pretty cool So to start the walk i’m going to put Inertia on a really long lead this one Is 50 feet long I’m just going to let her check Everything out and do anything she wants

To I mean within reason my goal with this Long lead and inertia is to give her as Much freedom as possible in this Uncontrolled Environment while still keeping her very Safe inertia Leave it come good job good job So it was absolutely necessary in that Case to call her because she was getting A little carried away starting to Potentially even eat some of that sand That’s no good But i like that she listened to me Really well there and throughout this Particular walk i’m really avoiding Calling inertia Or asking her to do a lot of things i’m Just really focused on letting her see What this whole place is about This time is just about walking down This beautiful beach and giving her a Chance to experience it for free walks The longer the better I mean i try to get in at least a good Hour during a serious free walk but do What you can And work around your own schedule of Course and remember i write about And detail how to get your dog used to Listening to you in the world in both of My books i’ll have a link below to those Wow [Music]

She did such a good job i mean she got a Little nervous but she recovered well And that is like air force one style big That’s a big jumbo jet As pristine and majestic as this beach Is it’s actually Right at the end of an airport runway so That adds a pretty unique twist To this walk she’s really good about Those planes This free walk includes things like Jumbo jets potentially bears and moose Too I’m even carrying bear spray out here Just In case safety is always the number one Priority And you can see how she’s free to go in This zigzaggy pattern go Down on the beach close to the water Then go farther away Sometimes a little behind me sometimes In front of me she’s got plenty of room Here To just be exposed to thousands and Thousands of Square feet i love those moments where She just comes to me without me calling Her as well that’s generally a pretty Good behavior so I still have my treats with me to give Her rewards for good behaviors that she Initiates on her own while we’re out Here

Do you want this here i’ll give you Chicken for that that was good Okay she’s trying to climb a cliff right Now to be honest you guys inertia just Stumbled on An alaskan childhood classic i think we All as kids Love to climb on those cliffs and Inertia just figured out that it’s super Fun and she’s right Look how much enjoyment she seems to Experience just by digging at the sand Or just running around Or walking on it and i can’t help but Wonder what these rocks Smell like to her i mean to her they Might all smell exactly the same but I’ll bet she can smell A difference in every one of these rocks Out here but anyone who would walk on a Beach like this would immediately be Fascinated by the massive variety of Different Rocks on the shore i’m hoping my geology Experts can help me out what is up with All of these different rocks in the same Place It’s neat to watch her be intrigued by The waves too And this entire beach is a brand new Surface whether it’s the sand or whether It’s all of the different rocks she has To walk on because it’s so varied and i Feel pretty good about having her walk

Here the vast majority of these rocks Are very rounded and smooth but it’s a Little bit of a challenging surface to Walk on probably more so for a person Than a dog Because dogs are really athletic and i’m Really mindful of the fact that lots of People and different Animals walk on this beach and leave a Variety of sense behind And it’s not just about the sense either There’s so much to see and to hear This is like an alien landscape for both Of us i mean how many places can you go Where you’re this close to an International city but you can Experience this kind of Solitude and beauty i love it and as Important as these walks are It’s important to not just do free walks In one kind of area if at all possible So really dig deep and look for Different places to do free walks so Your dog gets used to listening to you Everywhere but you might remember that We do these walks pretty often I mean recently when we were in georgia We did a free walk near a rushing river That even had big snakes We took inertia to the beach that time In corpus christi and did a really nice Free walk I frequently give inertia lots of free Walks on the lakefront at our house in

New orleans Even just a different part of your own Town or neighborhood can be dramatically Different to your dog remember Socialization isn’t just for puppies the More life experience you give your dog The more normalized the world is to them And the more likely it is that they’ll Be fulfilled and compliant Dogs are a really curious species they Seek out new information Everywhere they go they seem to have a Natural desire to just explore their Surroundings And when we give them that outlet they Seem satisfied in a way that other Activities Don’t quite provide yeah i think she’s Discovered a new hobby Digging sometimes you just have to let Your dog get dirty It definitely looks as though she’s Trying to accomplish something here That was crazy it made us both die And she recovered immediately which i Love so wow Inertia was enjoying frisbee so much Earlier maybe she might enjoy playing Just a short round or two out here today This has got to be the most scenic Frisbee lesson we’ve ever done Good test right here she’s playing Airplane flight’s over Will you go back and get your frisbee

Come on let’s go Come on get it get your frisbee let’s go Bring it to me The logic here is obviously if she’ll go And get the frisbee when a jumbo jet Flies over then she’ll probably do it Under many other Circumstances i’ve always thought that The more i can get a dog playing with me In a crazy situation like we just saw The more likely it is i can get their Attention when Abnormal things occur in the real world And right now she’s demonstrating A lot of reliability while essentially Off leash because i’m not holding the Leash I feel pretty confident here because i Can look around she’s unlikely to scale That cliff and she’s also unlikely to go Into that water but Never underestimate a dog’s curiosity Okay Take a break all done you are so Exercised You’re gonna sleep for three days Straight sometimes it’s tempting to Overwork our dogs and just play for a Period of time that might be a little Too long Is this is this a border collie right Here she acting like a normal watercolor You want to play look she’s like biting Me saying throw it you are taking a
