On getting him to listen To you while in a distracted state of Mind when you’re teaching a dog to walk Nicely on leash you have to get them Super reliable in a relatively Distraction-free environment like this While you artificially add distractions So that they have some type of life Experience behind them before you expect Them to listen to you say when a Squirrel runs across the road or there’s Another dog approaching you right yeah Especially with a big dog like this look He’s pulling me over here off camera That’s crazy So my plan here is to start with a Minimal distraction and then we’re going To gradually increase the levels of Distraction that is if all goes well We’ll see okay you can see I picked up Some dry treats over here you’re using Real turkey today which is a higher Value than what I’m using right now Nonetheless look at him he’s focused on Me get him to come to you right now Lucy Come here Lucy come here I know look He’s doing all checks with me I’m not Giving you a tree call him in a more Enthusiastic voice I mean yeah that’s it Look at that good and that increased Energy right there followed by a Generous reward is what’s making the Difference even though it’s for Something really easy like come to me

You have two feet away we did it while Distracted that’s good now that you’ve Got him coming to you with a minor Distraction why don’t you have him lie Down But again I’m gonna distract him with This treat right here because this is an Easy distraction they become greater Than this huh so go ahead and get his Attention on you and now ask him to lie Down I was he done long gone was he too Much of a distraction there and again This is intentional because he needs to Listen to you no matter what yes give Him a treat only because there was just A quick glance at you right there where He’s like wait I’m confused and you want To be there to be like I love that you Looked at me even for a split second It’s those little moments that make all The difference when you’re training a Dog does he no stay he does so go ahead And tell him to stay I want to know that He’ll stay while there’s a treat from Someone else being waved in front of his Nose you know what I mean yeah so stay And say it one time stay yes reward I’m Now gonna make it a little more Difficult by dropping a tree stay what’s He stay stay oh oh boy that one needs a Little work stay is non-negotiable you Know what I mean it is a life-saving Skill it is well worth everyone’s while To Train stay under the most distracting

Circumstances you can’t stay good So we want to reward those small moments Can I work with him for a moment yep Stick good good correction stay up here Look at me please Yes good I’m gonna give him a bunch of Tiny treats right there just to let him Know that was a great great decision you Want to put them in staying come back Here what’s he done sick stay there come Lucy come here what’s he coming if he Looks at you give him a big reward Yes reward him now there was two Opportunities he’s like dad what do I do Huh listen to me yes you know so that Timing needs to be improved on your part A little bit but you’re doing really Well I love throwing those surprises in We’re training because that’s real life Isn’t it you don’t know when a Distraction is going to come so I’m Pretty satisfied that he’s doing well on The treats let’s see if we can simulate Something a bit more exciting what do You say that’s good so why don’t you Just work with him just kind of doing What you were doing before but this time Let me add the distraction of a squeaky Toy so your goal is to get him to come To you over there and do a sit and again I’m not gonna hide the distraction our Dogs need to learn how to listen to us In a distracting world but I can control The distraction which is why this

Training exercise is key so you can get Him to come to you right now come here This is tough for him huh Lucy looks Like he’s motivated by both toys and Treats so maybe we should use a Combination of both of those when Training him when you’re training a dog You’ve got to be flexible like that if The food isn’t motivating your dog Enough find something else that does all Right so you’re gonna tell him the state I’m gonna say okay Lucy Lucy yes reward With just a possible ball as a way to Reward him with a dog that loves to play That’s what you reward them with down Whoopie Oh the movement really throw off their Stay stay stay Rewarding nice good job with distraction Training you must start with minor Distractions only gradually increasing The difficulty you can’t go from hey Listen to me inside the house to listen To me around excited dogs and squirrels I think if you could get him to stay While I’m like throwing treats all Around I think we can do it our goal is To create a distraction that exceeds When he’s likely to encounter in real Life State whoopee oh that’s cool right There he’s on the border so try and give Us attention back and do it down stay Down Okay good down stay stay stay good

That’s one jump stay moosie two jumps Three jumps dogs are skating I did my Motion like this attention on you he’s About to fail so try and really catch Him succeeding before he fails was he Done oh wait for you on getting him into It down down see how we’re controlling And modifying the distractions to work Him through this confusion state state Good state state Luci stay good hey I’m Gonna say his name and a high pitch boys This is tough Merci merci good job and look how tight Their training level is see how close he Has to be right now that’s fine because Dogs are more likely to listen to you And you’re super close that was awesome Good job that was wonderful and while I Know you came to me about getting them To listen to you while walking on a Leash around other dogs this is a Prerequisite to that so if you wouldn’t Mind I’d like you to keep working on This maybe we’ll do a follow-up lesson In the future that’s sound good sounds Wonderful click thumbs up for mu C and Shreyas they did a great job click the Link in the description below to get Your exclusive offer of up to 75 percent Off of pet joy supplements for lots of Dog training tips between videos follow Me on instagram i’ll have a link below At sack George subscribe to my channel To get a copy of my book I’ll have all
