That’s pretty nice but she’s just trying The different things to see hey what Results in me getting that thing that I Want and that’s what you want at this Point they’re training You want them looking for ways to get Those rewards that’s why we call it Currency overtime you’ll be able to Phase out rewards but for now it’s Really important that you get them Complying let’s see if we can get a Longer stay now stay ok Good job good eye contact do you see how She’s looking to me for direction let me Reinforce that that’s a thing with dogs When they’re doing things that you like Really glue those behaviors in by Reinforcing them and giving them the Treat so that they’re more likely to Repeat that desired behavior in the Future that’s another reason to keep Your treats very small because you want The option to treat endlessly let me see If I can walk a couple of feet away from Her and see if she’ll hold it with Smaller dogs it’s often challenging to Get their attention when you stand up Because we’re so much taller than them I Remember the last time that I worked With Pizza Bella she had very little Understanding of what it was to Communicate with a person and she’s just Improved by an order of magnitude now She’s doing great with smaller dogs like

This leash walking can be very Challenging we’re gonna see how her Leash walking is doing inside before we Go outside because if she’s struggling In here well there’s no point in going Outside because that’s a much more Challenging environment for this Particular training session all I’m Really trying to accomplish here is Getting her to basically pay attention To me while moving so I’m gonna let her Know I’ve got something good in order to Bridge that communication since she’s so New to communicating with people it’s Really important to incentivize your dog To listen look at me really good look at Me from up here now let’s see if we can Get look at me while moving come here Look at me fine that was like two steps Where she was paying attention to me Okay let’s go back this way come on over Here she’s a little distracted and do You sit nice work well if it’s Ebell if You just give her a second she probably Comes back to paying attention good girl So that’s a few steps you might notice I’ve been extremely liberal on rewarding Her I’m rewarding her on virtually every Success right now just to keep her Engaged I’m just randomly turning so That requires her to pay attention to me Good this may I’m gonna go up this way Come on good and over here and I’m gonna Reward there so now I had you know

Probably three or four reward Abul Moments right there but I chose to Reward at the end because she’s doing so Well see the turn now this way Look at that and one more oh wow that is Impressive bitsy Bella now it’s time to See how she does in an outdoor Environment which is likely to be much More challenging I’m so anxious to see How bitsy Bella does outside but before We do leash walking out there it’s Really important that she knows how to Hold her stay at the front door I mean Every dog should learn how to do that Let’s see what happens if I just open The door stay You cannot go outside without permission The idea here is to really burn it in Your dog’s brain that they’re never to Go outside without permission that’s the Objective of teaching this so let’s get Her a little warmed up here that’s it Notice I have her on leash you have to Be very careful when teaching this Because you can’t risk your dog bolting Out on the front door Let’s see your dogs are gonna outrun you Stay stay no back here and right there She got up come that’s it so I’m just Closing the door no need to leash Correct your dog stay did you see that Look she gave me that’s what you’re Looking for with stuff like this she Kind of turned up and looked at me as if

To say hey is this right stick up oh Good correction stay Waiting for the look to me there it is Good job nice work alright so there we Have a wide-open door and she’s holding Her stay this is exceptional for a dog Of her age Very good discipline very good impulse Control okay let’s go come on as many You will already understand when you go Outside with your dog all bets are off And many of them will walk completely Differently and it’s really important to Be tolerant of that especially when you Have a dog neuter training or a young Dog like this let’s go ahead and get her Warmed up to make sure she’s in a Teachable mindset let’s ask her to sit Ok that’s excellent she’s demonstrating That hey I’m able to listen to you in This environment look at me now that is Great good job girl Now before you just start taking your Dog and a walk around the block you want To make sure that you’re dedicating time To training them how to walk just in Front of your house for example it’s Important that you’re in a really Patient mindset whenever you do any type Of training but especially leash Training Bitsey come on let’s walk this Way look at me Oh she didn’t give me a look at me so I’m gonna pause here and just to really

Emphasize to look at me this is what I Mean when I say train and slow motion Like go real slow if you don’t get the Results you’re wanting just stop right There and try to get your dog to pay Attention to you she’s a little Distracted now there’s a lot going on Out here You want this whoo she’s extra Distracted see how she won’t even take The turkey right there she’s really Distracted by the general environment Over here she’s kind of looking around Everywhere we have some wind out here And so the wind carries lots of sense to It remember dogs have an amazing ability To smell and so that can be highly Distracting to them in a way that we Don’t really understand notice I’m Resisting the urge to pull on her Because I want her to think come on Let’s go Bitsey oh something’s got her attention There so I’m gonna stop right here I’m Gonna put her into a sit if she’ll do it If she won’t I’m gonna be patient here You have to try to see things from your Dog’s perspective she’s new to this World there’s lots of things that smell On the ground sometimes they just need a Minute it’s okay for dogs to acknowledge Things you can’t expect them to be Machines there’s a reason we say Patience is one of the most important
